DIY Beauty: Oily Skin

Posted By Heidi Pepin on Aug 8, 2007 at 2:16PM

Sometimes I feel that I bear a resemblance to the Tin Man. While I may not be silver, I am quite often shiny and I hate it. I often tell my husband that I could probably make the reserves for oil companies all by myself. So I thought that perhaps I should check out some of the oily skin recipes. I've heard good things about a lot of these - particularly the tomatoes. I certainly love Burt's Bees Tomato Toner.

But several of these recipes strike my fancy - I know I have the ingredients at home and they look simple enough to whip up. Can't help but love that!

So perhaps tonight will be a pampering night. I'll have some MD crabs, a beer, a pedicure, and try a mask!

Oily Skin Mask Recipe

Mix 1 tsp. brewer’s yeast with enough natural yogurt to make a thin mixture. Pat this thoroughly into all the oily areas and allow it to dry on the skin. After 15 - 20 minutes, rinse off with warm water, then cool water and blot dry.

Buttermilk and Fennel Cleansing Milk (For Oily Skin)

1/2 cup buttermilk
2 Tbsp crushed fennel seeds

Heat the milk and fennel seeds in top of double boiler for 30 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the mixture steep for 2 hours. Strain, cool, pour into bottle and refrigerate. Keeps for 2 weeks.

Cucumber mask

Take ½ cucumber, 1 egg white, ½ teaspoon of lemon juice,
and 1 teaspoon of apple mint, and make a mixture of these ingredients using a food processor or a blender. Keep this mixture in a refrigerator for 10 minutes. Then apply it on your face and keep it for 20-25 minutes. Rinse off with hot washcloth and then rinse with cool water.

Lemon Astringent

1/2 C. witch hazel
1/4 C. lemon juice

1 tbsp honey
An orange or a lemon

Mix the banana and honey together.
Add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon.
Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth.

Juice Mask
