DIY Natural Beauty: Candy Cane Bath Salts
Every year I tell myself that I'll do handmade gifts for the people on my Christmas list. Every year, I promise myself that I'll start early and finish quickly. And well, apparently I can only keep one of these promises (the second, I'm anal retentive that way!)
But I always think to myself that this would be a great gift for some lady in my life - mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, whoever! Yet I still never manage to actually make it.
Love the idea though! So, hopefully this year things will change and I'll keep my promises!
Candy Cane Bath Salts
2 cups Epsom salts
½ cup rock salt or sea salt
4 – 5 drops peppermint oil
2 – 3 drops food coloring
Yield: 20 ounces
Place 1 cup of the Epsom salts and ¼ cup of the rock salt in a mixing bowl or resealable plastic bag. Add 2 – 3 drops of peppermint oil and mix until evenly distributed. Place the remaining 1 cup of Epsom salts and ¼ cup of rock salt in a separate bowl or bag. Add the food coloring and mix until the color is evenly distributed and you are pleased with the shade of red. Add 2-3 drops of peppermint oil and stir well. In a large jar or clear bottle, layer the white salts and red salts.
Keep it for yourself or give it away as a gorgeous handmade natural beauty gift!

Post a CommentThis is another great idea!! I love it!
I
this idea! Homemade gifts are so much better, my opinion at least.
This may sound really dumb, but being as I have never made these things before it makes some sense....Where do you buy epsom salts and the oils?
This is a great gift idea! I never thought to make these and give them away! I'm so stealing your idea and using it for xmas. Oh, and I don't know where to buy epsom salts either. Could you enlighten us?
I am glad I'm not the only one bookgirl!
That sounds really good, you can smell like Christmas all day.
Style Before Comfort!
You should be able to find epsom salt at any drug store type place.

ALSW, you are so talented!!
These home-made bath gifts are SUCH a good idea! And I love
bath salts - I agree with bfly & bookgirl - where do you find that salt?
Thanks so much for posting, hun!
what about the oils? where do you buy those?
oooh fun!
Cute idea!!
I know you can get the oils online and often at your local Vitamin shops, GNCs, and local organic markets and co-ops. I believe that the Body Shop might sell it as well.
Probably the same for Epsom salts as well. Hope that helps!
And there's no such thing as a dumb question. Some of the recipes I've found in books I've had to get rid of becuz of some of the ridiculous (and rarely used) ingredients. Sometimes I have no idea where to get these things either!
Thanks ALSW! I am prepared for Christmas already because of you.
!!
